LIBBERTON, hamlet and parish in upper ward of Lanarkshire. The hamlet lies 2½ miles south-east of Carnwath, and has a church with 450 sittings, and a public school with about 64 scholars. —The parish contains also Quothquan hamlet, and its post town is Carnwath. Its length is 6 miles; its greatest breadth 5 miles; its area 8231 acres. Real property in 1880-81, £8550. Pop. 625. The surface is a peninsula between the Clyde and the South Medwin, includes much alluvial land adjacent to the Clyde, and rises thence to summit of hill-ridge on south-eastern boundary. The seats are Shieldhill and Huntfield and an interesting antiquity is a double walled Caledonian camp with extensive view. A public school is in Quothquan.
